Population

The snowshoe hare population can rapidly rise and fall on a 10-year cycle. During the high years, researchers estimated about 3,400 hares per square mile. 85% of snowshoe hare do not live longer than one year. Individuals may life up to 5 years in the wild. Female brown hares can give birth to 3 litters a year, each little typically containing 4.
