The Snowshoe Hare

Snowshoe hear are herbivorous. They may eat different kinds of grasses, small leafy plants and flowers. During the winter, snowshoes hares forge on buds, twigs, bark, and evergreens.

Limiting Factors

One of the main reasons why the snowshoe hare is endangered is because it is a key food for the predators in its habitats, specifically boreal.
Fun Facts
1. In Minnesota, the snowshoe is dark brown in summer so that it can match the deep shadows of damp northern thickets. In the coming winter the snowshoe hares grow an entirely new coat that is as white as the snow around it. This is called a leucistic phase.
2. They can run upwards of 20 MPH
3. Although they are herbivores but have also been known to eat dead animals.
4. Compared to rabbits, snowshoes are longer, taller, and have longer ears.
