My Endangered Species:
The Snowshoe Hare
Environment
Snowshoe Hares can be found in a few different habitats.
Generally in the evergreen, boreal and mixed deciduous forest as well as scrub habitats. They require habitats with dense vegetation for both keeping them warm and to hide from predators.
Group Behavior
The snowshoe hare is solitary, although it may share is home range with other hares. The snowshoe is most active at dawn and dusk and on cloudy days. During the day it spends most of the day grooming and napping.
Greenhouse Gas and Ozone Layers Effects
Greenhouse gases are having a terrible effect on the snowshoe hares because there has been a lot less snow in areas where the species lives. And because there is less snow and they can't decide when to change colors for the different seasons, if they change too early or late, then predators could spot them more easily, leading to a decline in the population.
